Ruidoso and the surrounding region knows if it’s fit to air as NEWS, there’s only one man you can count on for comprehensive reporting! Over the years, Jim Kalvelage, KWES & KBUY’S award-winning newsman has consistently proven his devotion to accuracy and compelling, fact-filled stories.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jim majored in Journalism at Chicago’s Columbia College and has been in both print and broadcast news for more than 20 years. He worked at various suburban Chicago radio stations for nearly a decade until the Milwaukee Sentinel hired him as news correspondent. Jim lived in Rhinelander, known as the ‘North Woods,’ and covered the whole state of Wisconsin for the Sentinel.
In 1997, he relocated to the Southwest along with his wife Vicky after traveling across Arizona and Colorado in search of a place to call home that had warmer temperatures and “was free of golf sized mosquitoes” the reality of living in the ‘Land of a Thousand Lakes.’
Before his broadcast news career began here in Ruidoso, Jim worked for the ‘Ruidoso News’ and in 2000 won the ‘News Story of the Year’ award for a New Mexico Weekly following his outstanding coverage of the Ruidoso Downs Fire Department. In 2001, he joined KWES & KBUY as News Director. His award winning tendencies continue unabated.
